WHAT IS JABARA?
「じゃばら」ってなに?
Jabara is a type of citrus fruit similar to yuzu, sudachi, and kabosu. Found natively only in Kitayama Village, it is also called the "phantom citrus" due to its rarity and limited production. The name "jabara" originates from a phrase in Japanese meaning "to dispel evil spirits" and it has been consumed since ancient times in Kitayama Village for its auspiciousness. Jabara has a relatively high sugar content, resulting in a unique flavor profile that combines bitterness, sourness and sweetness. Once you try it, you will surely be back for more.
Additionally, unlike other common citrus fruits, jabara is cultivated without using any pesticides during the three months before harvest. It consistently meets national standards and passes residual pesticide tests conducted by third-party institutions. Recently, there has been media coverage that a component abundant in jabara called narirutin, a type of flavonoid, may help alleviate symptoms of hay fever. Jabara has contributed greatly to Kitayama Village's revitalization and has developed into a major industry for the village.

About Narirutin
Jabara contains vitamins A and C, and also high amounts of carotene. It also contains plenty of narirutin, a flavonoid (vitamin P group) also found in red wine that has recently garnered attention.
Narirutin is significantly more abundant in jabara compared to other citrus fruits, with concentrations six times higher than in yuzu and 27 times higher than in kabosu. Its effect on relieving allergy symptoms, especially in type I allergies, is highly anticipated.
Worldwide, citrus fruits containing a single specialized component like this are rare, which is why "Kitayama Village's Jabara" is attracting attention nationwide.
