WHAT IS JABARA?
「じゃばら」ってなに?
"Jabara" is a type of sour citrus fruit similar to yuzu, sudachi, and kabosu. It is called the "phantom citrus" because it was only found naturally in Kitayama Village in the world, and its rarity and limited production have earned it this name. The name "jabara" originates from the meaning of "dispelling evil spirits," and it has been consumed for its auspiciousness in Kitayama Village since ancient times. It has high sugar content and a unique flavor profile that is both bitter and sour yet mellow, making it addictive after just one taste.
Additionally, unlike common citrus fruits, "jabara" is cultivated without any pesticide spraying for three months before harvest. It consistently passes residual pesticide tests conducted by third-party institutions, meeting national standards. Recently, there has been media coverage speculating that a component abundant in jabara called "naringin," a type of flavonoid, may alleviate symptoms of hay fever. It has also become the savior of village revitalization and has developed into a major industry in Kitayama Village.

About Naringin
"Jabara" contains not only vitamins A and C but also a high amount of carotene, among which the component worth noting is naringin, a flavonoid (vitamin P group) that has gained popularity due to red wine.
Jabara contains an abundance of naringin. This component is significantly more abundant in jabara compared to other citrus fruits, with six times more than yuzu and 27 times more than kabosu. Its effect on allergies, especially type I allergies, is anticipated.
Citrus fruits containing a single specialized component are rare globally, which is why "Kitayama Village's Jabara" is attracting attention nationwide.
